Antique Double Shotgun, 15 gauge 28" barrels, checkered walnut, front action percussion locks, marked B. Woodward

Part Number: AAN-344
This antique double barrel shotgun is marked B. WOODWARD on the locks. This could be the builder, lock maker, or even a importer. The barrels are stamped with English proof marks. Stocked in English walnut, the grain of the walnut stock has a few checks from age. All appear to be purely cosmetic flaws that do not affect the shooting ability of the gun.

The barrels have a brown finish with the wire twist pattern visible. The iron trim and locks have aged to a gray brown. A tiny dent in the forward end of the left barrel is the only such flaw found. The previous user reports that this cosmetic flaw does not affect the pattern. Else it can easily be lifted by a gunsmith skilled at such work.

The original wire twist pattern is visible along the full length of the barrel. The protected bottom of the barrel has alternating gray brown stripes, showing how the barrel was originally finished. The upper rib of the barrel is marked London. The London marking was a mark of quality and was used on guns produced in Birmingham, England to Leige, Belgium. Both 15 gauge barrels measure ..670" at the muzzle. Both barrels have very thin walls, 030" thick. Internally the bores are frosted with scattered pitting. Full original length, the barrels retain the ramrod catch notch in the rib below the muzzle.

Part Number: AAN-676
This T/C New Englander rifle was assembled from a kit and is offered as a used rifle. The New Englander features a 26" tapered round barrel in 54 caliber, American black walnut stock, percussion lock and blued steel furniture. Many of the screw slots show wear from a improperly fitted screw driver during assembly.

This .54 caliber Thompson Center New Englander Rifle has a 26" tapered round barrel. This barrel is rifled with a 1 in 48" twist, to shoot either patched round ball or a T/C Maxi ball. This rifle is fitted with the square partridge sights which many shooters prefer to the bead sights fitted to later production rifles. The barrel is served by black aluminum ramrod threaded 10-32 for accessories.

The bore is bright and clean. We recommend our #BALL-530 Hornady pure lead .530" round ball, #OX-15-50-D Ox Yoke .015" dry patch, #MINK OIL tallow lubricant, 70 grains of #GOEX-FFg black powder, and a No. 11 percussion cap for best accuracy.

If hunting big game, in thick brush, try our Hornady .54 Great Plains hollow base hollow point lubricated bullet. Increase the powder charge as needed, to achieve best accuracy with this heavier bullet. Recoil will increase, but will not be noticed during the hunt.

Wesley Richards Monkey-Tail Match or Prize Rifle, caliber .451", 39" barrel, three bands, walnut, iron furniture, ladder sight, lock dated 1863, by Wesley Richards & Co.

Part Number: AAN-764
This is a fine example of a Westley Richards Monkey Tail Military Match or Prize Rifle. The Westley Richards Company started in 1812 and is still in business today manufacturing fine sporting arms. The Westley Richards held a patent circa 1858 for a breechloading design that could be applied to muzzleloading cap lock design. The design is often referred to as a "Monkey-Tail" due to the shape of the lever used to expose the breech end to insert a paper cartridge.

The rifle has a overall appearance similar to a Enfield Model 1858 Rifled Musket with three barrel bands. The vast majority of the "monkey tail" rifles produced were carbines or shorter 33" barreled rifles. Approximately 1500 match or prize rifles were produced with either a 36" or a very few with a 39" barrel. The match rifles were serial numbered in sequence and this rifle has a 1863 date on the lock plate, 1425 serial number on the breech and lever, .451" caliber by 39" barrel, and other makers markings that conform to this style of rifle.

The military match and prize monkey tail rifles were the pre-eminent breech loaders at the Woolrich competitions started in 1860. Monkey tails remained victorious until the breech loading rules were changed in 1886 to only permit primed cartridges whereupon Westley Richards pressed the advantages of the Martini Henry rifle.

The 39" tapered barrel is rifled with a .451" diameter bore with a 1 in 20" twist with Whitworth style rifling. The bore is bright in excellent condition. The early rifles are noted as having a .4505/ .480 land and groove depth. The later rifles are noted as having a .451/.483" groove depth for the bore riding bullet that had been developed. This rifle has the breech end of the barrel stamped with both a .451 and 483" marking conforming with the dimensions of later production rifles.

The 33-1/2" Damascus barrels have aged to a dark gray. The twist pattern is still visible over the full length of the barrel. The right hand bore measures .790" diameter, the left hand barrel measures .795" diameter at the muzzle. The bores are fair with scattered pitting visible over the length of the bore. Henry Eicholtz Leman made many rifles during his 53 year career, from 1834 until 1887, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. This reproduction of Henry Leman's Indian Trade Rifle is stocked in maple and trimmed in mixture of brass and iron furniture, which is quite common on antique H. E. Leman rifles.

The hidden secret of this fine rifle is it's scarce H & H Rifle Barrel, cut rifled in .45 caliber, 1"octagon, made in the USA by Hoppy Hopkins' famous H & H Barrel Company. He was a frequent competitor at the NMLRA National Championship Matches at Friendship, Indiana, during the 1980 - 1990 period.

Fine quality custom made H&H barrels were premium priced, and were a favorite choice of the best gun makers during that period. This barrel has a mirror bright bore rifled with seven lands and wide grooves with a slow twist ideal for patched round ball.

Part Number: AAN-825
Produced in the style of those underhammer rifles popular in New York and New England, this lovely piece has been neatly fitted and finished. Stocked in fancy maple the butt is shaped with a pistol grip and fitted with a shotgun buttplate. The heart of the rifle is a .62 caliber by 36" tapered octagon Colerain barrel. The Colerain barrel and Numrich action are finished to a dark matte brown. Assembled and finished by contemporary builder Scott Coy

The Colerain tapered octagon barrel is 36" long. The cut rifled .62 caliber bore is in perfect condition, bright and clean with a 1 in 66" twist for a tightly patched round ball. We recommend our .610" pure lead round balls, .018" patches, and Mink Oil tallow patch lubricant

Colerain rifle barrels are a favorite choice of today's best muzzle loading gun makers, because knowledgeable shooters demand Colerain's accuracy, inside and outside. Colerain rifle barrels are drilled from solid steel, cut rifled with six “round bottom" grooves. Called “radius groove rifling", Colerain eliminates the sharp inside corner that accumulates fouling. Founded by two entrepreneurs, Scott Keller and Scott Kelly were tutored by Bob Paris, the famous rifle barrel maker who was first to perfect the technique for production of correct swamped barrels.

Jaeger Rifle .54 caliber, 31" swamped octagon barrel, Siler percussion lock, walnut, brass trim, by Don Kammerer

Part Number: AAN-861
This handy percussion Jaeger rifle was constructed and is signed by the late contemporary gun builder Don Kammerer. Stocked in walnut the rifle is trimmed with burnished brass furniture, all of which has aged to a mellow patina. This rifle is used with some marks on the stock, wear in the brown finish, and pitting in the bore.

The .54 caliber Getz swamped octagon barrel is 31" length, cut rifled with seven deep radius grooves and a slow twist for use with a patched round ball. Radius groove rifling eliminates the square inside corner that accumulates fouling , making the bore much easier to clean. Either through storage in humid area or improper cleaning the bore on this rifle is no longer perfect. All the rifling grooves display pitting from about 2" to 6" behind the muzzle.

The barrel has a hand engraved border at the end of the breech. The top flat is hand engraved Don Kammerer in Gothic script. The flat top rear sight is dovetailed 9-1/4" ahead of the breech. The rear sight is shaped with a feather finial. The front sight is a nickel silver blade with a brass base. This front sight is a latter addition to the rifle, and is currently fitted backwards. Installation of this sight has scuffed the brown finish on the barrel. A Don Kammerer "Bright and Clear" front sight is included with the mounting instructions. This sight has a steel base with a translucent orange blade to collect light.

Weighing just 7.8 pounds the rifle has a trigger reach of 14" and is well suited for today's average size shooter.
